I would like to welcome you to the editorial section and thank you for visiting the website. My name is Dominic Richardson and I am the founder and editor of Arts Tribune. I have over 15 years of experience writing for digital publication, and now I would like to apply my knowledge in ways that will benefit creative thinkers and readers around the world.
I am passionate about today’s media landscape. A short time ago, the industry had seen a significant increase in the number of new media startups. Many of them with an applied social media focus. Traditional journalism, which historically has been used to inform the public, has now been replaced by entertainment content. However, when interjecting the arts into digital media, I believe it changes the qualitative value of the journalism.
There are many platforms for arts journalism online today, each with a specific approach on how to develop content. There are both positive and negative signs regarding this reality. Unfortunately, large news organizations like Buzz Feed are closing their newsrooms and slashing around 15% of their workforce. This is a sign that venture capitalists may be reluctant to invest large amounts into media companies going forward. However, many small to medium -size outlets still have the ability to attract an audience and earn revenue, in the millions in some cases. While it may be difficult for the large corporations, the internet may still be a good place for niche websites to thrive.
While the market is going through changes, I am shifting my approach. Would I like to create a platform that’s on the level of Buzz Feed? Yes, I would. More importantly, I am taking a realistic approach and building around the writers and audience that we already have. We need to decide our approach and consistently build the platform one piece of good content at a time.
You can expect me to discuss growth opportunities in this editorial section. Hopefully it will give our readers and future investors some insight on our creative process and professional goals. I look forward to learning and sharing with you more soon.
