Wack 100 has come under fire from Nipsey Hussle fans after pulling a surprise U-turn on his past criticism of the late rapper.
In an Instagram post on Wednesday (August 21), the controversial music manager — whose clients include The Game, Blueface and 6ix9ine — crowned Neighborhood Nip a “musical legend,” citing some of his commercial achievements since his death.
“@nipseyhussle I’ve checked the #’s he’s up dam near 5000% overall when it comes to music & merch … And TV series or Movie has yet to drop which will drive that # up even more .. I now call him a musical #LEGEND ….. #West,” he wrote.
Wack’s praise came after it was reported that Nipsey’s final album Victory Lap had surpassed one billion streams on Spotify, which the veteran executive referenced in a follow-up post.
“The Truth Can Never Be Considered Disrespect … I call a [spade] a [spade]…. @nipseyhussle musical #LEGEND,” he said.
Wack’s lofty praise wasn’t welcomed by Nipsey’s followers, though, with many interpreting it as disingenuous considering his previous slander of the slain rapper.
“My problem you just all last year talking about a sextape you got on old boi now you posting showing love,” one person commented on his post, referencing Wack’s salacious claim that he possessed a gay sex tape involving Nipsey.
Another said: “U been slandering this man legacy and name for years now u wanna show love smh. U said what u said now stay on tht side #TMC #THEMARATHONCONTINUES #LLNH.”
A third user added: “Now this kickedupabootyboy @_the100show #wack100 wanna salute nipsey after all that slander [crying face emojis] go back to bed. U ain’t foolin us. I got rocked at rolling loud for it.”
In addition to the aforementioned sex tape allegations, Wack 100 ruffled feathers in 2019 — the same year that Nipsey Hussle was murdered — by arguing the Marathon mogul didn’t do enough in his lifetime to warrant being called a “legend.”
“He wasn’t,” he told TMZ. “What’s a legend? Define a legend. Let’s keep it real. If Dr. Dre died right now, we’d say we lost a legend, right? Based upon what? Numbers, right? Body of work, right? How many albums did Nipsey drop? One album, right? This not no personal shit. This is real shit.
“The man died with a million followers. No radio hits. No platinum hits. No world tours. After he died, he went platinum, sold a bunch of records, followers went up nine, 10 million.”
He added: “First of all, we gotta define what a fucking legend is and what it fucking ain’t. Was he on his way? I think within time, yes he would have been.
“At the time of his demise? Let’s keep it real. The truth can’t be defined as disrespect. If it is, that means you lyin’ to you muthafuckin’ self.”
Wack also stirred controversy by appearing to defend Nipsey’s killer, Eric Holder, who fatally shot the rapper after he questioned Holder about rumors of him being a snitch.
“Shitty Cuz, the alleged gunman, when it comes to the rules of engagement of gang banging, he did what he was supposed to do when another gang banger calls you a faggot, a pedophile or a snitch,” Wack said. “You supposed to handle your business. And can’t nobody say that’s wrong.”
The manager later apologized for his inflammatory remarks.
