Video and Photos: Andrew Barth Feldman, Sarah Hyland, More Celebrate the 5th Anniversary of Little Shop of Horrors
The show also unveiled a very strange and unusual statue of Audrey II, which will be on display in Times Square.
On the 19th day of the month of September, Little Shop of Horrors Off-Broadway celebrated its coming fifth anniversary in New York City with a very strange and unusual event in Times Square. Well, actually, it wasn’t that strange, but it was fun. See the video above, which features the show’s ensemble performing “Little Shop of Horrors (Prologue)”; current leads Andrew Barth Feldman, Sarah Hyland, and the cast performing “Skid Row (Downtown)”; and a very special unveiling of an Audrey II statue, which is now on display in Times Square.Â
Former cast members—including Jonathan Groff, Conrad Ricamora, and Drew Gehling—were also on hand to celebrate the show. Alan Menken, who co-wrote the show with the late Howard Ashman, was also present. This celebration coincided with some casting news: Sherie Rene Scott and Nicholas Christopher will step into the roles of, respectively, Audrey and Seymour beginning October 22 at the Westside Theatre. They will succeed Hyland and Feldman, who will play their final performances September 29.Â
The Off-Broadway revival of Little Shop began previews September 17, 2019, prior to an official opening October 17. After temporarily closing in March 2020 due to the pandemic, the production resumed its run September 21, 2021. With its five-year anniversary, Little Shop is almost catching up to the original production, which ran Off-Broadway from 1982–1987, for 2,209 performances.
See photos from the celebration below.
The Off-Broadway cast also currently features Tony nominee Stephen DeRosa as Mushnik, James Carpinello as Dr. Orin Scrivello DDS, Major Attaway as The Voice of Audrey II, Tiffany Renee Thompson as Ronnette, and Morgan Ashley Bryant as Crystal as well as Camryn Hampton, Michael Iannucci, Weston Chandler Long, Jeff Sears, Teddy Yudain, Zakiya Baptiste, Noel MacNeal, Jon Hoche, Johnny Newcomb, Melissa Victor, Christine Wanda, Daria Pilar Redus, Hailey Thomas, and Savannah Lee Birdsong.
