What are you thinking about when someone mentions the jungle? There are many associations with the jungle. Is that jungle bush in Africa? Or jungle on asphalt in an urban area in New York? In the 20th century, for instance, Cuban key elements within artistic practice intersected during this period, were consciousness of Cuba’s socio-economic realities, within the artistic formation in Europe under the influence of surrealism and re-acquaintance with Afro-Caribbean culture in art. This remarkable collision of jungle associated with art resulted in different artist’s moods, most notable work, with and about the jungle, on various aspects or used in all sorts of different concepts. Or that is jungle as a mirror and alter ego of the city, as Italian artist Dores Sacquegna pointed out? With Dores it is about relationships made up of contrasts and strong similarities, as the result of various interpretations of style between urban life and cultural identities. It doesn’t matter if it is about beauty, architecture, history, art, or any other urban curiosities, every city has a voice. This is the art project that builds a collaborative storytelling experiment between local inhabitants and foreign artists, and the aim is to build a hypothetical map of the city, via art, storytelling, photographic explorations etc…if we are talking about the contrast of urban safari centered in the old city and in the suburban area.
Italian Primo Piano LivinGallery is pleased to announce the new contemporary art project: “Urban Jungle” curated by Dores Sacquegna. The city of Lecce is a crossroads of cultures and sedimentations from prehistoric times to today has seen its splendor in its wonderful Roman, Messapian, Medieval, Renaissance, Liberty, Arab, Spanish, and Jewish’s architecture present in the city and small villages around it. It is an open-air museum among the most fascinating in Italy. It is the pearl of Puglia’s region, very nice to visit, scenic, warm and welcoming.
