Travis Scott has petitioned a Florida judge to toss his Miami trespassing case over legal technicalities.
On Tuesday (August 20), Scott’s lawyer Bradford Cohen filed a motion to dismiss case because there was a lack of “no trespassing” signs at the marina where the rapper was arrested for disorderly intoxication and trespassing in June, according to TMZ.
Cohen further argues that Scott was technically arrested at the address of a private parking lot, not the Miami Beach Marina.
The incident in question occured in the early hours of June 20 and saw the “Sicko Mode” star handcuffed by police for “causing a disturbance” on a charter boat.
According to the responding officers, Travis got into a verbal dispute with the occupants of the boat and appeared drunk.
After initially complying with requests to leave the marina, the rapper returned five minutes later and became “erratic,” police said.
He was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on charges of disorderly intoxication and trespassing property after warning. He was later released on a $650 bond.
Recently leaked bodycam footage of the arrest showed Travis arguing with police officers and admitting he’s “scared” of them while criticizing what he sees as an over-the-top response.
After further bickering, he was eventually restrained and handcuffed by the cops before being led away.
Prosecutors have since dropped the disorderly intoxication charge but are moving forward with the misdemeanor trespassing charge. Scott is set to go to trial for the matter on September 10.
