The highly-anticipated debut of Thor: Love and Thunder was well worth the wait for fans, the cast and production crew. As expected, the film performed extremely well during opening weekend.
Marvel’s latest film generated $143 million domestically opening weekend. It also made $302 million worldwide.
While its debut was not record-setting, it is an example of how fans are willing to support action films even though the world is still dealing with the pandemic.
So far the project has seen some mixed reviews. “Commercial success, however, doesn’t always directly correlate with quality,” explained CNN’s media critic-Brian Lowry. “A downward drift for the Disney-owned unit raises legitimate questions about whether Marvel’s efforts to feed the parent studio’s streaming service, Disney+, have contributed to diluting its output.”
Marvel continues to be one of the strongest brands in Hollywood, as the company’s films have generated over $25 billion during its lifetime.
