During the COVID-19 pandemic, Taylor Swift has continued to make music and share it with her fans through surprise announcements. Since the pandemic, she has created two more surprise albums with a lot of good music in genres she’s never released a project in before.
It has been leaked that Taylor Swift has a special announcement on her next appearance on Good Morning America. There has been much speculation about what the announcement could be. Some fans think that it could be another album. Others think it may be a virtual music session or concert. Or maybe even some exclusive, behind-the-scenes content of her making her last two albums.
Swift will make her announcement on Good Morning America on Thursday. Hopefully, she will be unveiling something new whether it’s music, content or something else. It is no secret that she is currently re-recording her older albums because she no longer has access to them. Her previous music from 2006 to 2014 was managed by Big Machine Label Group.
However, Swift’s music catalog was sold to Scooter Braun in 2019 without her permission. While she should be speaking with her attorney about what she can do legally in this situation, Swift isn’t just waiting on the legal system, she has decided to re-record every song that was sold in her catalog. Instead of going backwards, it probably would be better to let the lawyers handle the illegal selling of her catalog, so that way she can move forward with her artistic journey and focus on new music.
Her last two albums have been great to listen to, especially during the pandemic. Most of her fans probably want her to focus on new music instead of re-recording the past. Since her catalog was sold without her knowledge or permission, the lawyers should be able to find a way for her to regain her recordings. The whole situation is unfair. Taylor Swift is one of the most creative artist of her generation, and if companies are taking her music away imagine how these companies are treating other artists. It should be illegal for someone’s music catalog to be sold without their permission.
The albums she will be re-recording are the following: Swift (2006), Fearless (2008), Speak Now (2010), Red (2012) and 1989 (2014). She completely nailed 1989 and it’s a shame that she has to go back and re-record it.
Scooter Braun has since sold the collection of music catalogs to Shamrock Holdings for $300 million. Swift’s music probably accounted for the majority of the music’s value. It’s understandable why she wants to re-record those album, but is it possible to capture the essence of the music that she had when she was creating these albums? Also, will they have any value now that Shamrock Holdings has the original copies? There are so many questions that need answers. It is important to note that many artists are starting to sell their catalogs for hundreds of millions of dollars and creating their own estates to manage and grow their wealth.
It is mind boggling that Swift will have to wait before she could do something like that. If she had known her catalog was going to be sold, she could have gained the rights to the albums from the company and sold it herself for $200,000 million or more. It is terrible that some executives in the music industry are making sure that she does not have the opportunity to do that, which is sad on their part. While her management has seemingly taken advantage of her, Swift never stops creating for her fans. There are some issues on the management side of things that hopefully she will be able to get through, but creating good music and sharing it with her fans seems to be the best way to release the tension and share something positive with a lot of people.
