Taylor Swift has officially endorsed Kamala Harris for president in 2024.
Swift announced her endorsement on Instagram on Tuesday following Harris’ debate against Donald Trump.
“I’m voting for Kamala Harris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,” Swift explained. “I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos. I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate Tom Walz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades.”
Swift said, “As a voter, I make sure to watch and read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country.” She added, “I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice.”
Swift also acknowledged that she was partly motivated to publicly endorse Harris because Trump had posted fake AI-generated images suggesting she had endorsed his presidential run. “It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation. It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.”
To conclude her post, Swift encouraged her fans to register to vote and to conduct their own research to find the candidate who best aligns with the issues most important to them.
Swift signed her post as “Childless Cat Lady” and included a photo of herself with her cat, referencing a remark made by Trump’s running mate, J.D. Vance.
Swift previously endorsed Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in 2020.
Last year, Trump questioned whether Swift was actually liberal in an interview with Variety editor-in-chief Ramin Setoodeh for his book, Apprentice in Wonderland: How Donald Trump and Mark Burnett Took America Through the Looking Glass. “She is liberal, or is that just an act?” Trump asked Setoodeh. “She’s legitimately liberal? It’s not an act? It surprises me that a country star can be successful being liberal.”
Swift will embark on the final run of her “Eras Tour” beginning in October, with concerts in Miami, New Orleans, Indianapolis, Toronto, and Vancouver. Get last-minute tickets here.
