I’m having so much fun, I wanted to share some of it with you all.
I have a free day here, so I thought that something fun for the weekend would be to show you a few more pieces I made recently.
One of the other students made a tea light/aroma therapy diffuser, and I loved the idea, so I made one of my own! I think it came out pretty nice! That red-orange glaze really pops, and has a lovely fiery effect to it. This was made using the slab method, where you roll out the clay, and then shape it over something to get the form you’re looking for. In this case, I cut out little stars so that when the candle is lit, and the top is in place, filled with aromatic oil, that enough air gets in to allow the candle to burn all the way down.
The first method you learn in ceramics class is pinching, as it is historically the way clay was first used (long before anyone invented the wheel). That’s why I decided to master pinching, and here are three items I made recently. I know, the one on the bottom right has a pretty glaze, but shape wise, is a bit… meh. However, the other two came out very nice (in my humble opinion)!
My teacher said that mastering pinching can lead to mastering using the potter’s wheel. That’s why I’ve decided to continue with these classes, but for this academic year, I’m going to concentrate on getting better at working on the wheel. But before that, I did some pinching work with the BLACK clay, and experimented with some glazes. Here’s how they came out, and I love them both, especially how dipping the white glaze over the blue made for a really lovely effect on them!
I hope to have more to show you in the coming months, but from the WHEEL! Wish me luck!
That’s all for now! Have a lovely weekend, everyone.
