If keeping spirits high at the 2024 Paris Olympics was a sport, the rapper and NBC special correspondent would be winning gold across the board
There’s no way Snoop Dogg would let his epic stretch of festivities at the 2024 Paris Olympics pass without picking up a microphone for music purposes, rather than his commentary as NBC’s special correspondent. On Monday night, the rapper performed his universal classic “Drop It Like It’s Hot” at the USA Basketball 50th anniversary party.
The celebration, co-hosted by Comcast NBCUniversal and the NBA, recognized the 50th anniversary of USA Basketball. The stacked guest list for the event included LeBron James, Steph Curry, Anthony Edwards, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Diana Taurasi, and more. A’ja Wilson, who also popped into the party, represented herself in the crowd — but Snoop Dogg repped her on stage, sporting her Number 9 Team USA jersey.
Scenes from the party hosted at the Palais Brongniart were posted across social media by guests in attendance. “Drop It Like It’s Hot” was the obvious fan favorite, but Snoop Dogg also surprised the star-studded audience with a cover of “Too Close” by the R&B group Next. “Couldn’t leave you guys out of this one,” basketball player Téa Adams wrote in the caption of her TikTok post from the event.
Snoop Dogg’s performance was a high-energy precursor to the next round of games Team USA will play in Paris. Later today, Aug. 6, the men’s team will face off against Brazil in the quarterfinal. Meanwhile, the women’s team is scheduled to return to the court tomorrow, Aug. 7, for a quarterfinal match against Nigeria. The semifinals are set for Aug. 8 and Aug. 9 for the men’s and women’s teams, respectively. Medal games will follow over the weekend.
Since touching down in Paris, the rapper has gone swimming with Michael Phelps, carried the Olympic torch, narrated an intense badminton match, and cheered on Team USA’s highly-decorated women’s gymnastics team from the sidelines.
