SMTH in collaboration with MMMAD Festival in Madrid, Spain presents the II International Open Call for Digital Arts under the theme ‘Yes to all.’ All this is organized in Plenilunio Madrid and Vialia Estación de Vigo shopping centers. In this second they are looking for digital artworks that experiment with the space and format. SMTH’s large scale screens are located in several of the most important shopping centers in Spain. The shopping center will host the digital art program CC Vialia Estacion de Vigo and CC Plenilunio In Vigo. It will be exhibition on a system of six large format LED screens located in the center of public attention, main entrances or corridors of Plenilunio shopping center. This call will end by 25 October 2022. “The artworks in this exhibition are aimed to show optimistic reframing of the unexpected and sometimes inevitable ways.”
A jury composed of the artist Claudia Maté, the curator Doreen A. Ríos, the speculative designer Joel Blanco and one institutional vote –formed by the votes of a representative of each of the four convening institutions: SMTH, MMMAD, CC Plenilunio and CC Vialia Estación de Vigo– will select the five best artworks, which will receive a prize of €1,500.00 and will be exhibited on the screens of the Centro Comercial Vialia Estación de Vigo and Plenilunio Madrid from November 2022 to February 2023.
The theme screens in shopping centers in are large windows to inform, advertise and to concept cultural content. “Yes to all” opens the opportunity for international artists to rethink “how the context in which their work is to be shown can condition the work itself, challenging the limits of software, distorting possible advertising realities and proposing new ways of looking at hardware.”
How systematic effort can be to manipulate other people’s beliefs, or attitudes, or actions by means of symbols (words, gestures, banners, monuments, music, clothing, insignia, hairstyles, designs etc..). What is distinguish propaganda from casual conversation or the free and easy exchange of ideas. How we deliberately select facts, arguments, and displays of symbols and present them to have the most effect. To maximize effect, to distort pertinent facts or simply lie means distorting possible advertising reality, it means creating software good enough to argument and stand out in this field. As a primary storyteller in our society, a very good digital message not only impacts on individual ideologies, but also influences society as a whole as the fundamental manifestation of the mainstream culture.
There will be 5 prizes of 1.500€ each, deadline is 25h of October 2022
