Scarlett O’Malley has announced her forthcoming EP ‘Clean Up Cowgirl’, landing on her label Club Cowgirl on October 11.
Across its three tracks span Latin tech house, hip house and Detroit techno, with the release – the second on her imprint this year – “drawing from all corners of her music taste” as it “reflects the evolution” of the DJ, producer and broadcaster’s sonic influences.

“Clean Up Cowgirl is a three track EP that I think truly captures the different corners of my sound. No pretentiousness or high brow stuff with me, just out and out 4×4 club tunes that I made with the intention of emulating the sound I want to hear played on big sound systems,” O’Malley tells Mixmag. “I love how all three tracks are really unique to each other but still have a running thread through them to keep them aligned!”
‘Rendezvous Night Cue’ opens up the affair, inspired by Latin tech house. 90s dancehall artist Patra is sampled in the chopped-up vocals which couple with a conga drumline and house stabs, before ‘Juice Break’ nods to hip house through its pumping kicks and hats. There’s driving basslines aplenty – and samples from LA Dream Team’s ‘The Dream Team Is in the House’ and a catchy UKG ‘Pick Me Up’ – which flow into the final cut, ‘Dial Up Dreaming’.
Inspired by Detroit techno, the EP closer is arguably the darkest of the three club-focused cuts, packed with hi-hats and heavy kicks as attention is earnestly shifted to its energetic bassline. It’s sprinkled with lasers and sirens and a heavily low-pitched vocal sample; and the track is rather niftily inspired by “the day Microsoft made the world meltdown”.
