Port Chester’s own famous live concert venue The Capitol Theatre is just one of the venues that were saved from closure as a result of the pandemic through supporters of #SaveOurStages and federal funding allocated by New York’s own Senator-Majority Leader Chuck Schumer who spoke at a press conference on Thursday, April 1st at the entrance of The Capitol Theatre to announce that live music venues in the Hudson Valley will be operating again in Westchester and Rockland County.
Senator Schumer was joined by other elected officials including, Senator Shelley Mayer, Westchester County Executive George Latimer, Rep. Mondaire Jones, Port Chester Mayor-Elect Luis Marino, to announce that #HelpIsOnTheWay and he detailed specifics from the American Rescue Plan that he led to passage in the U.S. Senate.
“Getting federal dollars into the hands of struggling small businesses, like independent venues in the Lower Hudson Valley, not only makes sense, but it’s the ‘curtain call’ needed to keep live venues like The Capitol Theatre going,” Senator Schumer said in a press release statement.
