On Wednesday, The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced its 2023 class of inductees. Seven performers and bands were selected from 14 nominations revealed last February. The class features a diverse selection of artist from a variety of musical genres, including Willie Nelson, Sheryl Crow, George Michael, The Spinners, Missy Elliot, Rage Against the Machine and Kate Bush.
Over the last decade, the Hall’s definitions of “rock and roll” has evolved to include artists of different styles. In addition to the seven acts, guitarist Link Wray and hip-hop pioneer DJ Kool Herc will be recognized in the “musical influences” category. Al Kooper, Bernie Taupin and Chaka Khan will be given awards for “musical excellence” and Soul Train host Don Cornelius will be given the Ahmet Ertegun awards for hism impact in the music industry.
The induction ceremony will be held on Friday, Nov. 3 in Brooklyn, New York.
