Rebel Wilson has managed to spark quite the storm – it isn’t just the weight loss fans are talking about. The 41-year-old Australian actress has made 2021 headlines for maintaining the 70+ pounds she dropped last year, with content on her social media continuing to flaunt her slimmed-down figure. A recent share saw the “Pitch Perfect” star showing off the perks of her jet-setting lifestyle while in Fiji, although talk was less about the beach as the comments section exploded.
Rebel updated ahead of being announced as Fiji Tourism’s latest ambassador. The video afforded a “Baywatch” finish as Rebel was filmed wading out of ocean waters in slow-motion, with a bright orange and zip-up swimsuit big-time highlighting her weight loss. Footage showed the actress solo, on a blissful sand beach, and confidently sashaying towards the camera, also rocking a blonde ponytail and her signature shades. A string of heart emoji was the only caption.
With over 1.5 million views clocked, the video has definitely gotten noticed. It was one particular reply, though, that got fans talking. A user wrote: “Thigh gap” with a heart-eye emoji, seemingly endorsing the controversial term, one associated with thinness and unrealistic beauty standards.
“IF YOU HAVE a natural thigh gap, it’s cool that society forces women to pursue it even if it’s not natural for everybody to have them? Wake up and smell the roses,” one fan replied, with another saying: “And look at the way people idolize it. This is why women struggle. Thigh gaps can be unattainable for lots of people but they’re shoved in our face as a beauty standard and bam…EDs and insecurities.”
Others, however, manifested support for Rebel amid the storm – the star has openly shared her mindful eating and outdoor walks journey contributing to her weight loss as she made 2020 her “year of health.” Firing back, one fan said: “I’m just happy about her transformation, that thigh gap shows how much her body changed. I don’t really care about the thigh gap, but seeing her transformation is amazing.”
Meanwhile, a fourth user chimed in, adding: “It’s kinda sad how women behave this way. Only women can create a thing about thigh gap and be envious about it.”
Rebel had, last fall, addressed her own unhealthy eating habits amid her lifestyle revamp, going on Instagram Live and saying: “You feel satisfied and then you stop eating,” also adding: “Whereas if I’m eating a whole frickin’ bag of chips I’m just like devouring that and suddenly there’s a ton of calories and game over and yeah, no weight loss that week.”
Also having made headlines for their weight loss are celebrity faces including reality star Khloe Kardashian, TV mogul Oprah Winfrey, sitcom star Ariel Winter, plus superstar singer Adele. Rebel does not appear to have addressed the comments left to her video. She did, however, receive plenty of praise, with one user writing: “Babewatch” with a fire emoji. 2021 also sees the star joining actress Kaley Cuoco to front feminine-geared vitamins brand Olly.
