“Portrait Artist of The Year” is a television show series that finds the best portrait painter every year. In 2020, this series has launched its sixth season. “Portrait Artist of The Year” has started since 2013.

In every episode, the series has a ‘celebrity sitter’ or celebrity who is sitting as a model of painting. Some painters compete to create the best portrait painting of the celebrity. For this year, many celebrities were involved as celebrity sitters, among of them are, Anjili Mohindra (acts as ‘Nadia’ in Bodyguard series), Asa Butterfield (acts as ‘Otis’ in Sex Education series), Mickey Flanagan (Comedian), Trevor Nelson (Radio DJ), Tinie Tempah (Musician), Asim Choudhry (Comedian), Russell Tovey (acts as ‘Steven’ in The Good Liar), Nile Rodgers (Musician) and many others.
The celebrity sitters then choose one painting that they want to bring back home. The 2020 series has Stephen Mangan and Joan Bakewell as presenters. Each competition was judged by Kate Bryan, Tai-Shan Schierenberg, and Kathleen Soriano.

Watching this series is so much fun. Various painters from different backgrounds and styles interpret the same subject and produce a variety of amazing portrait paintings. The various kinds of creative processes of the artists make us realize that art is really meaningful. Painting is not only about technical skills, like how to create a realistic picture or how to make a good perspective, but also about representation of the spirit of artists who involve in the creative process.
The 2020 series has announced Christabel Blackburn as the winner of this year.
“Portrait Artist of The Year” 2020 has eleven episodes and is currently available on Sky Arts channel.
