Her other school friends warned her.
Actress Lee Se Young recently talked about learning the challenges of being famous at a young age.
Lee appeared in the latest episode of Yoo Quiz on the Block and shared a painful experience of betrayal. She rose to prominence with her role in the 2003 K-Drama, Jewel in the Palace. Notably, she was only 11 years old back then.
Though her character, Geum Young, was an antagonist, Lee Se Young recalled that she received positive attention for it at school. But the newfound fame also gave her a reality check at a very young age. Lee recalled that when Jewel in the Palace became popular, she discovered that a trusted friend was actually running an anti-fan site dedicated to her.
At that age, Lee admitted, she wasn’t able to catch up with the situation, even though her parents had warned her.
It was during my first year of middle school. My parents were looking at something on the computer and warned me, ‘Don’t be too close to the friend you’re hanging out with these days.’ At the time, I pretended not to hear them.

It wasn’t until her other friends at school exposed that friend that Lee finally realized and even confronted them. That friend continued to operate the online anti-fan café despite getting caught.
One day at school, my other friends asked me, ‘Why are you hanging out with her when she created an anti-fan site for you?’…When I asked, ‘Did you do that?’ they replied, ‘I did. I’m sorry.’ But even after that, they kept operating the site.

Despite the heartbreak, Lee was able to overcome it all and navigate her way to a successful acting career. Having debuted in 1997 as a child actress, she has marked 27 long years in the industry, standing tall despite the challenges.
