Music therapy is a scientifically-based medical treatment that helps with a variety of medical disorders such as cardiac conditions, depression, substance abuse, and Alzheimer’s disease or autism. It can help with memory loss, high blood pressure, improve coping, reduce stress, improve self-esteem etc… “There’s just something about music — particularly live music — that excites and activates the body,” says Loewy, he studied a growing movement of music therapists and psychologists and now he is investigating the use of music in medicine to help patients dealing with pain, depression, Alzheimer’s. “Music very much has a way of enhancing the quality of life and can, in addition, promote recovery,“ Loewly said. Nowadays researchers are exploring how music therapy can improve health outcomes of a variety of patients, including premature infants and people with depression and old population with Parkinson’s disease.” We’ve found compelling evidence that musical interventions can play a health-care role in settings ranging from operating rooms to family clinics,” says Levitin, author of the book “This is Your Brain on Music” (Plume/Penguin, 2007). His analysis also points to just how music affects mental health. Actual listening to and playing music increase the body’s production of the antibody immunoglobulin A and natural killer cells, those who attack invading viruses, improve the immune system’s effectiveness. Music also reduces levels of the stress hormone cortisol.“This is one reason why music is associated with relaxation and meditation,” Levitin says.
An art organization from the UK, Syntropy States that we already talked about before, is a small digital arts organization, with a big mental health improvement vision. As we said in previous articles, it is a platform that brings together the digital arts with breathwork, relaxation, and meditation and the role that art and music can play in people’s health and happiness and we want to help digital artists and musicians to find a meaningful role in helping to heal stressed up society. Music therapy is the clinical use of music that helps achieve individualized medical goals such as reducing stress, mood shifting, and self-expression. As well established music therapy experiences it may include listening, singing, playing instruments, or even composing music
UK’s Synotropy States is looking for artists and musicians who want to use their work in meaningful ways and improve social wellbeing by creating accessible art and music that provides a way to relax, reconnect and revitalize online. They would like to commission 4-5 minute audiovisual videos to be hosted in the app “Syntropy”. Syntropy is a new and exciting way for the digital arts to serve as an effective and widely available digital health tool.
Each visual and audio selection of candidates will get £200, along with the promotion, exposure, and a digital arts residency within the Syntropy app and website. Artists can submit an unlimited amount of samples for three categories, Breathe, Relax and Elevate.
The deadline is 16 of April 2022, there is no entry fee. Artists to apply can
