MCC annual fundraiser
MCC Theater’s annual MisCast gala is an exciting and unique way to fundraise. Think of Broadways’s new and hottest stars all coming together to perform songs from their favorite shows knowing they are roles they are unlikely to ever play on stage.
Where else can you see the likes of Heather Headley, Joshua Henry, Leslie Odom Jr, Norbert Leo Butz, Phillipa Soo and Rob McClure all perform for one thrilling performance, MisCast 2020. Did I mention a surprise performance by Kristin Chenoweth?
For the last 20 years MCC theater has held their annual fundraiser, Miscast, but like everything during this pandemic MCC had to move their fundraiser online and it is now viewable on Youtube.
MCC, or Manhattan Class Company, began as a collective of young actors, writers and directors who wanted to steer and develop their own artistic development but also help redefine the New York theater scene. The collective wanted to present stories that they were interested in on the stage.
Originally located in the West Village at the Lucille Lortle Theatre, in 2019 MCC moved to its new home at the Robert W. Wilson MCC Theater Space in Hell’s Kitchen, the heart of the theater district in Manhattan.
Like live performance around the country MCC had to cancel it’s season due to the outbreak of Covid-19 and like many not for profits have been greatly hit.
MisCast couldn’t have come at a greater time. Like many theater fans that are really missing the stage. MisCast allows you to watch some of your favorite performers sing a number of two and if you are inclined to do so you can also donate to help a great small theater company.
Heather Hadley performs “Endless Night” from The Lion King, Joshua Henry sings “Tomorrow” from Annie, Leslie Odom Jr and Nicolette Robinson sing “The Human Heart” from Once On This Island and Phillipa Too sings “Some Enchanted Evening” from South Pacific.
But the highlight for me was watching Beanie Feldstein sing “Dancing Through” from Wicked with the surprise performance by Kristin Chenoweth.
The MisCast fundraiser is important this year more than any other as it provides vital support for the MCC theater company to help it continue into 2021 and continue to develop and produce exciting and engaging new work Off-Broadway, which is now needed more than ever.
You can watch MisCast through the MCC Youtube channel and if you are feeling generous you can also donate too!
