Measuring Success as an Entertainment Writer in 2023

If you have the passion for analyzing works in the arts and entertainment fields, then you may be a perfect candidate for an Entertainment Writer or Editor position. It is important to keep the American Recession in 2008 as a key point in time. During this period, media companies significantly reduced its workforce. As a result, many Entertainment Writers took their talents to the internet and shared content on digital platforms. Over a decade later, media companies still find it difficult to maintain a reliable workforce.

Do Not Get Discouraged as an Entertainment Writer

In 2023, there will be more job openings for Entertainment Writers than the industry has seen in quite some time. This will give writers the opportunity to work for non-profit organizations, corporations, and to market their skills as a freelance writer. It is important to decide on which path you will take. Any option can lead to great opportunities, but it is probably more practical to select one and apply yourself as an expert in one area.

It is also important to not get discouraged if you do not land a job right away. I applied to every media outlet in St. Louis and I was only interviewed by Multiply, CBS Radio and Jazz St. Louis. Even though the job interviews were a great experience, I still did not land a job. Throughout this time, I was working on developing my own digital media platforms, which turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made because I was getting valuable experience and discovered a way for me to work as a freelancer. I was rejected by every media outlet in my area, but I am glad that was the case because now I have a platform that people enjoy reading.

Metrics as a Measure of Success

Every writer wants their content to be read by millions of people. Companies use programs like Google Analytics to measure the audience volume for pieces of content. It is possible to identify the number of pageviews, visitors and what sources they use to connect with your content. If your work is generating hundreds of thousands to millions of visitors each month, then most agencies will view this as a success. However, smaller audiences of tens of thousands of people can be a success as well depending on what niche topic the company’s website covers. It is important to note that Google Analytics is a free tool that can be used independently or with a company.

Valuable Content

One significant sign that you are moving in the right direction as a writer is that if your contemporaries like what you create. If you develop valuable content, it will increase the chances of receiving excellent feedback from readers and other authors. When people appreciate what you do it is a clear sign that your writing is successful.

As a Writer, Why Should I Create a New Media Company?

If you enjoy collaborating with SEO and other technical staff within an agency, then working as a Content Writer or Entertainment Writer for a company would be a good fit. However, if you are entrepreneurial and your content has a spin that other companies have not implemented, then starting your own agency or working as a remote freelancer could be excellent options.
