With his country pivot now in full swing, Machine Gun Kelly has released a cover of The Chicks’ “There’s Your Trouble” for the Spotify Singles series. Stream it below.
The rapper-turned-pop-punk singer previously performed the cover during his CMA Fest set at Spotify House in June, when he also brought out Jelly Roll to play the latter’s hit “Need a Favor.”
Much like his recent cover of Zach Bryan’s “Sun to Me,” mgk’s rendition of “There’s Your Trouble” proves him to be capable at karaoke, but doesn’t do anything to add to the original.
Regardless, mgk’s country rollout has marched forward. In late July, he reunited with Jelly Roll for their new single, “Lonely Road,” which features a lackluster reimagining of John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” As our own Mary Siroky wrote about the collaboration, “it takes more than a zip code to sound at home in country music.”
In 1998, The Chicks released “There’s Your Trouble” as the second single from Wide Open Spaces. It topped the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and landed in the Top 40 of the Hot 100.
The country group’s last full-length was their 2020 comeback effort Gaslighter, one of the best albums released that year.
