In our era of totalitarian timelessness, which where we are heading from someplace to elsewhere, the confused sense of going somewhere often may explain people’s choice of erotic topics, which was moderately daring in past and nowadays going to total aesthetical extreme, in order to provoke a controversial reaction to certain expectations when it comes to showing artistic erotic photography. On the one hand, fictional courage evoked a virtual sense of embarrassment and on the other brought acceptance of the official rules of how to represent one of the few escapes. And there is the individual’s intense “engagement” in relating to experiencing erotic in the art that gave people hope that may be indifferent to some rigid social-political systems in the world.
Eroticism today in photography, film, or any kind of art removes any sense of frustration and is satisfied for a certain realm of human needs, something like self-realization. In a synthetic prefab culture with all possible lack of employment, with no possibility for professional growth, and without the hope of traveling much, it also helped to aestheticize society and in a certain way, fulfill dreams.
Born in 2019, the organization Lusted Men, a Paris-based collective artistically engages with the eroticization of men’s bodies. At the crossroads of art, research, and manifesto this organization took the shape of a call for photographs opened to all. It is creating a visual archive of contemporary intimacies and inclusive representations of men, but Lusted Men do not want to define eroticism in order to give normative frames on this topic.
The Lusted Men archive has more than 400 photographers and 2000 photographs and testimonies. In 2020 exhibited at PhotoSaintGermain, during Arles festival, and in Bruxelles.
Lusted Men do not request exclusivity in the use of your pictures, the artist owns intellectual property rights. Lust Men is at the crossroad between art and research and requests your photographic practice to join in. Feminism is an act of love and this is feminist research above all.
