Lil Troy has given fans an update on his health as he continues to recover from a heart attack.
The Houston rapper, best known for the 1998 hit “Wanna Be a Baller,” reportedly suffered a massive heart attack last week but appears to be on the mend.
Speaking to AllHipHop, Troy sounded optimistic about his recovery and future.
He said: “I’m good feeling good and ready to get back to being Superman. Feeling bless[ed]. Getting to start a new life of [eating] right and going to the doctor and taking my meds.”
Fans initially feared the worst after Willie D from the Geto Boys said the 58-year-old rapper was in a bad way.
“The good news is he’s still with us. The bad news is he’s not out of the woods,” he said in a video posted to his YouTube channel. “I spoke to Troy this morning — he’s alert but he’s still in the hospital where he’s been since Tuesday of last week.”
Willie then urged his viewers to “do something about this health crisis that we’re in,” citing the alarming number of rappers succumbing to untimely deaths including Fatman Scoop and BeatKing, both of whom have died in recent weeks.
Lil Troy previously had a close brush with death in 2021 while working as a truck driver. According to ABC 7, the former rapper’s 18-wheeler burst into flames while he was driving down Interstate 10 in Houston, but he was luckily able to pull over and escape before being injured in the fire.
In an interview with HipHopDX following the scary incident, Troy reflected on his near-death experience as well as the deaths of his “Wanna Be a Baller” collaborators Fat Pat, Big Hawk, Lil’ Will and Big T, who passed away between 1998 and 2018.
“I’ve been saying [the song] is cursed for a long time. It’s like that movie Final Destination when everyone starts dying right after each other,” he said.
“I started thinking about that when everybody started passing. And I’m like, ‘I know I’m not next.’ Everybody that got on that song or did something together, they start dying one by one after each other. I said, ‘Oh no, it’s not my time to go yet. No, no.’”
