Kobe Bryant has been pronounced dead after his helicopter crashed in Calabasas around 1 pm eastern on Sunday (1/26/20). Four other passengers were also found dead in the crash.
The tragedy happened less than 24 hours after active NBA player, Lebron James, surpassed Kobe’s NBA scoring record, which put James at number 3 all time next to Karl Malone and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Bryant is a five-time NBA champion, MVP, 18-time all-star, and is regarded as either first or second greatest player of all-time according to many sports fans. The fans in Los Angeles and surrounding areas are big supporters of Bryant, his career and his legacy. They were also excited about Bryant’s next phase of his career with investing in startups in Silicon Valley. Bryant is an investor in VIPKid, a company that virtually connects native English speakers with Chinese students in order to teach them a new language.
Kobe Bryant was an artist. It could be possible that he was the most spontaneous player to ever make it to the NBA. Many great players like Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Reggie Miller and others, basketball fans knew what was in those players offensive and defensive arsenals. The same can be said about any NBA all-star today. Bryant was the only player that when he caught the basketball, defenders had no idea what kind of play he was going to run. They did not know if he was going to attack the basket or shoot a 40-foot turn around jumper beyond the top of the key. This spontaneity was art in motion, and propelled him to be one of the most appreciated players of all time.
Kobe Bryant is now gone at the age of 41, but his legacy will continue. The fans that grew up watching him play will always celebrate his impact on them and sports in general; they will pass down stories regarding the legacy and legend of Kobe Bryant. He will be remembered as one of the greatest to ever do it.
