Kissing in the Library
If you’re going to write romance, do you have to be a fan of the genre? Just to read it out and check what is it sounds like I think! The simpler the better!
But I always wondered one thing: can romance readers sniff out a ‘fake’ writer?
If we talk about a good plot here, I guess that focus on the emotional and sensual tension of the relationship between the two main characters is essential. But the story must give readers an intense and emotional perspective because otherwise, a storyline then falls out.
So I guess this is how it goes. We get in and get out to perfectly encapsulate good-story writing. But can you really make money out if? This is a commercial novel, we are talking about here. Once I interviewed very successful British writer Iain M Banks, who started a career with fabulous SF novels, really good quality writing, but made a lot of money with crime and suspense novels and became the most selling writer in the UK. And this man lived in one romantic, dreamy castle in Scotland, UK that he has got out of royalties only for the other writing, the one not very literature quality writing, but very popular writing. His popular novels included a bit of graphic sex, but not too porny writing (well, a bit too graphic for my taste), love, romance, suspense and, crime. The right formula for success –true getaway literature! He learned in life that living out of romance and suspense is possible, even if it is pretty crap literature and that writing good stories does not include bestselling and money.
Is housewife literature back? Are we going back to the 50s, but now using computers instead of physical books?
If you go to the website www.dreamy.com you can write your own romantic-suspense story. The writing contest is, indeed, very romantic and it is called in James Bond style, Kiss me or Kill me and you have a chance to win 2500$. We are talking about easy fiction here and the deadline is 12th of January 2021. Plenty of time!
The winners can own a Pay-to-read program and receive royalties, and also a full-time writer program may be interesting.
