John Lewis has always been an inspiration to me. I have several family members that participated in the Civil Rights Movement, listened to speeches by Martin Luther King Jr., joined the military, and had the opportunity to peacefully protest a variety of issues. Everyone knew who John Lewis was and the sacrifices he made to stand up for the truth in his life. Unfortunately, I never got the chance to meet him or hear him speak live. However, I do remember his character portrayed in the movie Selma. Also, the film’s leading song Glory, added some new lyrics about the protest in Ferguson, and being a resident of that city and watching the movie on the big screen was an incredible inspiration to me. The spirit and energy of John Lewis will live on, I am happy that the world had him for so long and he will never be forgotten.
