Jenny Holzer is a New York-based artist who is well-known for her projections of words and ideas in public spaces.

Holzer uses provocative language for questioning consumerist impulses, abuse power, and patriarchal domination. Some of her famous words are “Abuse of power comes as no surprise”, “Protect me from what I want”, and “Raise boys and girls the same way”.

Her words were projected on the building and other architectural landscapes. Her large projections of text invited everyone who saw to read and think. She also displayed her texts on electronic LED signs that were mounted on the public spaces.

Jenny Holzer’s work is a kind of theatricality. She is successful to orchestrate the power of word, image, light, motion, and space to draw the viewer’s attention. Her Lightworks theatre is capable of delivering a subversive message to the viewer. She says, “My work might be like theater in that I hope there’s an audience”.
