The block hasn’t been hot for Jennifer Lopez, and it’s been such a sad crash to witness. The drama reached its peak this week when she filed for divorce from Ben Affleck. Honestly, I’m impressed by how she’s holding it all together.
Let’s take a quick trip down memory lane. Lopez had been teasing her ninth studio album, “This Is Me…Now,” since late November 2022, and it finally dropped on Feb. 16. The album was largely inspired by Lopez’s rekindled relationship with Affleck. The two reunited in 2021 before eloping the next year, and everything appeared to be going much more smoothly than their first go-round in the early 2000s. Lopez’s mother even said that she had prayed for Affleck and her daughter to reunite.
The “Get Right” singer released what was billed as a “cinematic experience” to accompany “This Is Me…Now,” along with the documentary “The Greatest Love Story Never Told.” While watching the visual album, there were moments where Affleck seemed puzzled about his involvement in the project. After highlighting her new work in a promotional campaign, J.Lo announced a concert tour, only to cancel it later. She described feeling “completely heartsick and devastated” about the decision. Live Nation said Lopez was “taking time off to be with her children, family and close friends.” Meanwhile, divorce rumors were flying all over the media.
That’s not all. Dexter Carr, a dancer who said he worked on Lopez’s Motown tribute for the 2019 Grammys, said that he was one of only three Black people in the room during a rehearsal. He also said that Lopez questioned what he was going to do with his hair ahead of the performance.
Then, a source told In Touch that singer Mariah Carey felt Lopez’s tour cancellation was “karma.”
“She believes it’s karma biting her in the butt because she’s not as talented as she thinks and way too arrogant,” the insider told the outlet.
“But J. Lo isn’t giving up, she’s hoping to pick herself up and get the tour back on track once all this mess dies down,” the source said. “And a big motivation will be going head-to-head with Mariah and competing for her holiday fan base. It’s hard to believe she’d be thinking that far ahead, but that’s J. Lo for you, she always has a game plan.”
Of course, fans chimed in on social media and had some things to say about Lopez’s karma.
Now, I’m not here to jump on the Lopez-bashing bandwagon, but I really hope she prioritizes herself this time around and finds peace and love within. Girl, focus on you, those babies and all your passions.
