Even though Rep. John Lewis has died, there are so many of his colleagues and people around the world that will carryon his message of freedom, liberty and justice.
Last Thursday, Lewis submitted an article to The New York Times about the future of non-violent protests as a way of making change, he poignantly writes “Now it is your turn to let freedom ring.”
He wanted the article to be published the same day as his funeral. Which took place at Ebenezer Baptist Church (Atlanta) where he spent time with his mentor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Lewis wanted the current and future activist in America to take a stand for what’s right in our country, particularly how we treat each other and how this will determine how far the country can go in regards to national security and interpersonal relationships.
It is my opinion that Dr. King gave his life for civil rights and Mr. Lewis gave his body, soul and tried to let everyone know they had the ability to keep up the good fight.
