The Kentucky State Fair recently removed a miniature by artist Preston Poling aka “The Bearded Miniaturist”, which had won third place, after it was found to depict a “casting couch” scene associated with pornography.
“It gets people talking,” he said. “That’s what art is supposed to do. Whether you like it or you don’t like it, or you think it’s inappropriate or you think it’s too simple, the whole point is to get people discussing it and talking about it and getting excited to go to the fair. And it’s definitely done that.”

Although the piece was removed due to its inappropriate content, Poling retained his other entries and awards. He described the work as intended for humorous effect, but its removal has raised questions about what is deemed acceptable in public exhibitions.
The incident highlights the tension between artistic expression and public standards at such events.
