Fans recently noticed that Eminem changed his avatar to a Bored Ape NFT on Twitter, and now multiple sources say he dropped a lot of money on the purchase.
According to blockchain publication Decrypt, Marshall Mathers purchased a Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT for 123.45 Ether (ETH), the decentralized cryptocurrency commonly used for NFT transactions. At the time of the transaction, which was made last week, that equaled roughly $452,000.
“I’m living in a simulation,” wrote the crypto fan who sold the NFT to Em, GeeGazza. “Thank you @Eminem for buying my ape and joining the club! Madness. Let me write a lyric in your next single.”
That same user posted about the NFT in November and said that they believed Eminem was “destined” to purchase it from them.

Eminem hasn’t spoken publicly about the purchase, but the change of his avatar on both Twitter and Instagram makes it clear he was behind the purchase.
Slim Shady isn’t the only celebrity in the Bored Ape Yacht Club. Other notable names to jump on the bandwagon include Post Malone, who also changed his avatar to his NFT purchase, and Lil Baby among others.
