Lil Wayne is not just one of the greatest lyricists of all time, but also an excellent leader — according to Drake.
The 6 God got into the Throwback Thursday spirit on, appropriately, Thursday (September 5) as he reposted a video from 2009 of Weezy “introducing” his Young Money signees to the masses during an interview.
The clip showed a young Drake listing off his many aliases (Jimmy Valentino, Drizzy Drake Rogers, Young Angel) before passing the mic to fellow superstar-in-the-making Nicki Minaj.
Playing cheerleader for his up-and-coming artists, Wayne mimicked a crowd going crazy as Drizzy spoke while making juvenile, sexually suggestive noises during Nicki’s turn on the mic.
Drake praised his former label boss’ managerial qualities, captioning the clip: “We were so lucky to have the most supportive boss in the game always gassed us up.”
Journalist Jayson Rodriguez also added more context the clip, commenting on Instagram: “This was my interview I did. During MTVu spring break in Panama City beach. I had to do a lot of work to round all of YM together on Wayne’s bus. Got them tho. Then afterward I interviewed Drake 1:1 in the lobby for his first US TV interview. Was quite an era.”

Drake has made no secret of his admiration for Lil Wayne in the past.
When the New Orleans rap legend brought in his 39th birthday back in 2021, Drizzy was at the heart of the celebrations and made a toast to his longtime collaborator.
“We don’t get a chance to gather as a family much anymore,” he said while hoisting his glass of champagne in honor of Lil Wayne. “I still, to this day, get nervous speaking about this man because, at the end of the day, as much of a brother and a mentor as he is to me, he’s still my idol. And still somebody who just puts me in a place where, when I start thinking about him, I start thinking about my family.”
Drake also shared photos from the birthday bash, posting a group photo of himself, Weezy, Young Money president Mack Maine and Wayne’s former manager Cortez Bryant, as well as photo booth flick of him holding up one of Wayne’s “Best Rapper Alive” bandanas.
“YM FOREVER AND EVER,” he captioned the post.
The love is mutual as Wayne has often spoke up for Drake, too.
The “A Milli” hitmaker stopped by The Richard Sherman Podcast back in January and shared why he thinks people hate on the Certified Lover Boy so much.
“He red, he light-skinned,” he said. “That’s just American history. How I know is, because I’m not light-skinned. I hated on all light-skinned dudes in school. So yeah, it’s American history, man.”
