The Dragon Ball franchise has been in existence since the late 1980s in Japan. The media property had manga and multiple iterations of its popular animated television shows. These pieces of media have seen great success in the United States as well. The animated shows remain highly watched by American audiences on Toonami and the Crunchyroll streaming service.
Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero earned $20.1 million its debut weekend ahead of Universal’s Beast at $11.57 million.
“We have this special one to one connection with our fans, talking with them on social media and at in-person events. They give us great feedback,” explained Crunchyroll SVP, Global Commerce Mitchell Berger. The company displayed 20-minute trailers of the new movie at Comic-Con in San Diego and Crunchyroll Expo in San Jose.
Entertainment analyst continue to study Crunchyroll and its recent success. It probably boils down to the company having unique intellectual property that is popular in many countries around the world.
