Despite appearing together in Friends for a decade, David Schwimmer was recently “surprised” to hear that his late costar, Matthew Perry, had kind words to say about his acting skills.
Notably, she recalled asking if David was “just someone who just does it,” which apparently prompted Matthew to praise his former costar’s natural talent.
“He talks about how it’s not out of control at all, that you’re a linchpin person in a scene,” Cush recalled Matthew saying. “That mostly people were always looking to you to know physically what direction things should go in.”
In response, David confessed he was “surprised” to hear that Matthew had talked so kindly about him because he hadn’t been the type to hand out compliments.
Considering the praise, David said he was “one of the few” in the Friends cast who “had a rigorous theater training,” which may have given him a leg-up with physical comedy on the show.
Of course, despite Matthew’s reserved nature, he and David, along with the rest of the Friends cast, still had a close relationship.
After Matthew’s sudden death in October last year, David paid tribute to his former castmate on Instagram, praising his generous heart and comedic talents.
