This is a post to say a huge congratulations to the organisers of the Edinburgh Women’s Fiction Festival: Jane, Kristin, Emma, Jen, Robyn and Olivia. The festival took place over the weekend and it was just fantastic! It’s almost as if someone designed a festival especially with me in mind.
Over the two days there were nine author panels which covered a diverse range of subjects: demystifying the publishing industry, insights into indie and traditional publishing, Regency romance, Maggie O’Farrell discussing the women writers who inspired her, witch trials in Scotland, modern families in novels, happy ever afters, cosy fantasy and women in historical fiction.
Although I didn’t attend any of these, there were also events specifially for writers with various workshops, the opportunity to have author headshots taken by a professional photographer and a chnace to pitch your novel to an agent.
It was wonderful to be amongst a book loving audience and especially to meet up with blogging and reviewing pals including Kelly (Love Books Tours), Susan (The Book Trail), Fran (Fran McBookFace), Johanne (Johanne’s Book Recommendationss), Susie (Susie’s Book Reviews) and Louise (Bookmarks and Stages). It was also lovely to meet bookstagrammers Mae (The Tartan Pumpkin Reader) Lesley (The Wee Bookworm) and Aileen (Aileen’s Book Account) for the first time. Then we spotted publicity manager Chloe from Pan Macmillan so of course we needed to have a chat and get a photo with her too. I’m sure I’ll have missed some people out so apologies if I did! Thanks to Kelly for these two photos.
And of course it was fantastic to be able to listen to, meet and chat with so many talented authors. Here are a few photos with just some of those attending: Maggie O’Farrell, Sally Page, Heidi Swain, Rebecca Ryan and Georgina Moore. Will need to get more next year!
It was a privilege to have been asked to be part of the blogging team for the Festival and I’m very grateful to the organisers for inviting me. As part of the team, I was able to attend all the events over the weekend and the special party in the new home of The Edinburgh Bookshop on Friday evening. So I want to say a massive thank you!
I have shared a few posts over the past few weeks linking to the festival podcast hosted by Jen Hyatt. These are still available to listen to and there will be more added over the coming weeks. Click here to catch up: She Reads
I’ve added a couple of reels I posted on Instagram below which will give you a flavour of the weekend’s events. If you are interested in women writing for women and about women then mark the last weekend of September in your diary for next year and get yourself to Edinburgh. You will thank me!
