Angela Simpson, the Phoenix woman who impaled, stabbed, strangled, beat, and extracted the teeth from a disabled man — then dismembered him and set pieces of his body on fire — was sentenced today to life in prison for the 2009 murder.
Simpson pleaded guilty on March 22 to first-degree murder for killing 46-year-old Terry Neely, in what Phoenix police called “one of the most heinous homicide cases the department has ever seen.”
Among other things, Simpson pulled Neely’s teeth out, drove a nail into his head, bashed him with a tire iron, stabbed him around 50 times, and strangled him. Then she chopped up his body and threw the pieces in a trash can, which she lit on fire.
Simpson was already in jail on an unrelated armed robbery charge in August 2009 when she was interviewed by police, and admitted that she killed Neely.
Neely had been missing for about three days after he left an assisted-care facility in his motorized wheelchair on August 2, 2009.
On August 5, 2009, the fire department was called to a residential trash bin on fire, which was holding Neely’s charred remains.
“Angela Simpson told investigators that she lured Terry Neely into an abandoned apartment and once inside, attacked, dismembered and placed him in a trash can,” Phoenix police said at the time of her arrest on the murder charge. “Her detailed description matched the injuries that were found during the autopsy examination.”
Simpson told the cops she thought Neely was a “snitch” for police, which wasn’t true.
Simpson was sentenced by Judge Paul McMurdie to natural life in prison, plus 14 years for other charges.
In case you missed it the first time, the video below gives a little insight into Simpson’s personality: and there is Ph.D. giving his assessment also.
Normally, TikTok users borrow the sounds of Doja Cat or Megan Thee Stallion to renegade and WAP dance to. Now, the app is seeing an influx of users lip-syncing to the sound of a murderer.
“He told me he was a snitch, on many occasions. I took him to my house, walked him down the street, I don’t know why the media acts like the mother f**ker couldn’t walk, he walked very well. Walked him upstairs, kicked his a** and killed him,” says a woman’s voice in a popular TikTok audio.
“Do you think he really was a snitch,” asks a man’s voice.
“Oops if he wasn’t. Yes, I believe he was,” replies the woman.
This isn’t the transcript for a movie or TV show, it’s of Angela Simpson, who pled guilty to the 2009 murder of 46-year-old Terry Neely, a disabled man from Arizona. Simpson also admitted to strangling, stabbing and pulling her victim’s teeth out.
Simpson gave an interview to Arizona’s 3TV after being sentenced to life in prison in 2012. During the interview, Simpson matter-of-factly admitted to her crimes and explained in detail what she did. “Why would I be?” she responded after being asked why she wasn’t remorseful.
Years later, the interview was used as the inspiration for Killing Eve’s psychopathic hitwoman Villanelle, played by Jodie Comer, according to the show creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
On TikTok, content creators are now using the audio of that interview to test their acting skills, in a dark new “acting challenge.” The trend sees TikTokers mouth along to Simpson’s interview, with expressions to match Angela Simpson’s voice. Some creators even captioned the footage “#Murder.”
Actress Christa Allen, who played a young Jennifer Garner in 13 Going on 30, took part in the challenge on Thursday. Allen, who has amassed a following of over 1 million on the app, did two versions of the interview, comparing her “TikTok acting” to “film acting” takes.
While the audio has proven popular, with some videos amassing over 300,000 views, some users online have pointed out the potential dark side of the trend. “I really don’t think this is something to be used as acting…it’s a real crime from 2009. It feels wrong,” wrote one user.
“You’re a great actress, but could you imagine being the victim’s family member and stumbling across this ‘trend’?” asked one TikTok user.
Simpson’s interview isn’t the first time, and likely won’t be the last, that TikTok users have become fascinated with the cases of known murderers. Recently, dozens of accounts have called for the Menendez Brothers, who were convicted in 1996 to murdering their parents, to be freed from prison.
