Christine Lakin has a theory for why she didn’t get a role on “Fuller House.”
The actress, 45, appeared on Friday’s episode of Jodie Sweetin’s “How Rude, Tanneritos” podcast and claimed that she was nearly cast as a recurring character on Netflix’s “Full House” reboot series — until she was unexpectedly let go before she could even participate in the table read.
Lakin recalled that she had a “great” meeting with creator Jeff Franklin and “was stoked” about appearing on the show, which aired from 2016 to 2020.
“And then about two days before the table read, I got a call from my manager saying, ‘Yes, something happened. They’re pushing the table read. I think there’s some stuff with the script they want to rewrite,’ ” Lakin explained.
She continued: “The next day happened and my manager calls and says, ‘Hey, I don’t know how to tell you this, but you’ve been let go.’ And I was like, ‘What do you mean?’ And he said, ‘Yeah, they just said they’re rewriting the character and they’re not going to need you anymore. And I was like, ‘What did I do wrong?’ I didn’t even go to a table read.”
Describing the situation as “strange,” the “Step by Step” actress said she tried to get insight from one of the “Fuller Houser” writers, but the writer didn’t know the reason for her firing.
Lakin explained that she believes she was let go from the show because she mocked star Candace Cameron Bure’s brother, Kirk Cameron, seven years earlier.
“I participated in a ‘Funny or Die’ video that a friend of mine made and at the time, ‘Funny or Die’ had just come out. And at the time, Kirk Cameron had said some public things about the LGBTQ community and I thought those were very damaging.”
In the 2012 video, Lakin and other former child actors playfully made fun of Cameron, 53, who caused controversy for anti-gay comments at the time. He said in a CNN interview that homosexuality was “unnatural” and same-sex marriages were “detrimental.”
“It was funny. It was a satire,” Lakin said about the video, which she said went viral at the time.
“And all I can think of is that it created some bad blood,” she added. “And seven years later, my presence was not wanted. That’s maybe what I think.”
Lakin revealed that her “friend” Virginia Williams got the role she was up for. Williams, 46, played C.J Hargenberger in a recurring and guest role on Seasons 2 to 5 of the sitcom.
“It was a bummer for me,” Lakin said. “It really was.”
The Post has reached out to Cameron and Cameron Bure’s reps for comment.
“Fuller House” was a sequel series to “Full House,” which aired on ABC from 1987 to 1995.
Cameron Bure, 48, played D.J. Tanner in both shows.
Sweetin, 42, and Andrea Barber joined Cameron Bure in returning for “Fuller House,” while their original co-stars John Stamos, Bob Saget, Dave Coulier, and Lori Loughlin all made recurring appearances.
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen did not come back for the reboot show.
Like her brother, Cameron Bure has also caused controversy for her personal beliefs.
In November 2022, the actress announced she was leaving the Hallmark Channel for the Great American Family network which she said does not feature same-sex couples at the forefront of its projects.
“My heart wants to tell stories that have more meaning and purpose and depth behind them. I knew that the people behind Great American Family were Christians that love the Lord and wanted to promote faith programming and good family entertainment,” she said.
Her comments caused ire among celebs including Sweetin.
