Even though the show has been on NBC for many years, Saturday Night Live (SNL) continues to provide laughs and social commentary to its viewers. Some cast members stay onboard for decades and others are only there for a short time. Cecily Strong is a veteran, comedic actress who recently made her departure from the show.
During the most recent offseason, SNL lost several comedians who were in frequent sketches. In order for the show to work during its 2022-2023 season, they needed more contributions from featured cast members. This caused a lot of buzz to take place on digital and social media channels on TV writing and culture. Some of the fans made posts about how they believe the latest season of SNL could be the program’s last as they predict a decrease in viewership based on the loss of familiarity with previous cast members. .
Cecily Strong was one of those familiar cast members who became known for her impressions, physical comedy and versatility. During the first couple of episodes of the new season, Strong did not appear on any sketches or during the opening and closing credits. At this point in time, no statements were made regarding her tenure with SNL. Some of the fans started to speculate and many also waited intently to learn where their favorite comedian had gone.
During the third and fourth episodes Strong appeared in various sketches and was added to the credits. Initially, some TV writers thought that this meant that she was going to complete the season. However, the last episode before Christmas was her farewell to the show. The last sketch was completely dedicated to Strong. They sent her off with a very funny sketch, and as a comedian, she probably wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.
After graduating from CalArts, Strong performed improv at The Second City in Chicago. She was hired for SNL and appeared on the show from 2012 to 2022. She is the longest-tenured female cast member in the production’s history. She was nominated for two Emmy Awards.
Strong is on the new commercials for Verizon Wireless. She stars in the musical series Schmigadoon! on Apple TV+-which has been renewed for a second season. She will also be featured in the new animated film Garfield which is set to premiere in 2024.
