New Jersey’s own famous rock icon Bruce Springsteen (aka “The Boss”) was arrested for DWI on November 14 at Gateway National Recreation Area in Sandy Hook, NJ. He was cited for reckless driving and consuming alcohol in a closed area. He’s scheduled for a court appearance in the next few weeks.
Update: TMZ now confirms that Springsteen was ‘glassy-eyed’ at the time of his arrest and his blood-alcohol level was below the legal limit. An officer observed ‘The Boss’ in action taking a swig of tequila, hop on his motorcycle and start the engine and that’s when the trouble ensued. The officer smelled the alcohol on him and informed Springsteen that drinking was prohibited in the recreation area and noticed the Patron tequila bottle was empty.
Springsteen told the officer that he was leaving the park but had shots of tequila 20 minutes earlier. The officer asked him to take a sobriety test and he took 45 steps instead of the usual 18. It was clear that Springsteen appeared to be ‘swaying’ and he refused to take a breathalyzer test.
TMZ reports that ‘The Boss’ was cooperative throughout the whole arrest and this is his first arrest for DWI.
Springsteen was featured for the first time in his first-ever 2-minute Super Bowl commercial for Jeep. It featured Bruce in an unspecified town in middle America offering a patriotic vision and message of hope.
TMZ reached out to his team but no comment from Springsteen’s camp.
