Country music star Blake Shelton has recorded a new version of “Go Tell It on the Mountain” for the upcoming family comedy “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.”
The song will play during the end credits of the film, which comes out in theaters on November 8. Fans can pre-save the song starting October 18.
Shelton’s Inspiration and the Film’s Plot
Shelton said he loves Christmas music and wanted to create a song that reflects the holiday spirit. He described “Go Tell It on the Mountain” as a song that expresses reverence, faith, and joy.
“The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” tells the story of the Herdman children, who are known for their mischief. When they take over the town’s Christmas pageant, they unexpectedly learn the true meaning of Christmas. The film stars Judy Greer, Pete Holmes, Molly Belle Wright, and Lauren Graham.
Behind the Music
The new rendition of the traditional holiday spiritual was produced and arranged by Scott Hendricks, with help from Shelton. Gospel star Gordon Mote played the piano and organ on the track. Wendy Moten, who was on Shelton’s team during Season 21 of “The Voice”, provided background vocals.
Dallas Jenkins, the director of “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever,” shared his enthusiasm for Shelton’s recording. Jenkins said the song “exceeded [his] expectations” and that he has listened to it numerous times.
