Bill Gates plans to send $20 billion to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Lately, the foundation has priotized initiatives concerning the global pandemic and the war in Ukraine. As one of the largest philanthropies in world, the foundation will increase payouts by 50% of pre-pandemic levels through 2026. The foundation targets charitable giving in the areas of global health, gender equality, education and other issues.
Although being the world’s fourth-wealthiest person, Bill Gates does not plan to rank any higher on the Bloomberg Billionaire Index.
“I will move down and eventually off of the list of the world’s richest people,” Gates published in a recent blog post.
“I have an obligation to return my resources to society in ways that have the greatest impact for improving lives. I hope others in positions of great wealth and privilege will step up in this moment too,” he added.
