American Theatre is proud to be the venue for Theatrical Mustang, an independently produced podcast from actor-writer-activist Woodzick. Each month they bring listeners interviews with unbridled talent and cultural trailblazers from across the country.
This month Woodzick and musician and artist Sandy Sahar Gooen dream of gender-expansive revivals, from trans Assassins to Follies “but sapphic.” Together they “nerd out” on musical parody, queer and trans storytelling, and inclusive vocal pedagogy. Sandy’s research unpacks the arbitrary nature of voice labels, and his work spans many disciplines.
Sandy holds extensive training in composition, performance, theatre, and dance. You may know him from his viral “If I Were A Cis Man” Fiddler on the Roof parody. He is the founder of TEMPO (Trans & Expansive Music Professional Organization), an initiative making space for trans and nonbinary people on music teams. Writing credits include It Takes a Village, Pass/Fail, and friEnDs. New musical Twink Piece is currently in development. He has performed with Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Duplex, Joe’s Pub, 54 Below, Broadway Cares, Carnegie Hall, Metropolitan Opera House, and more. Sandy returns to The Green Room 42 on Nov. 20 in Boy Mom, a show he developed with theatre company Fake Friends.
