Aidan ‘By Myself’ – Song Review

Last Thursday, upcoming R&B singer Aiden released “By Myself”-his third single of 2023. Each of the tracks can be streamed on Spotify. Currently, not much is known about this new artist, and music critics want to known if his singles will be featured on an EP or an official album.

“By Myself” describes the emotions most people have after a relationship ends. In his voice and lyrics music fans can hear the language of a person who wants to reconnect with a lost love. The song is about isolation and the fear of being alone.

Lyrics

Spent three weeks on my own
Forgotten how to speak
Saving all my speech for when you’re
For when you’re back in my arms
The nights won’t feel so bleak
They’ll be rainbows every morning

Even though his relationship ended a short time ago, it feels like an eternity. He is so overwhelmed by emotions he remains silent and still. He cannot speak. The only thing he can do is to save his words for the day when he reconnects with his love. He doesn’t know if that day will occur, but he is willing to endure the nights of pain in order to find a rainbow one special morning.

I’m suffering in peace, babe
So don’t close the door on me
There’s nothing I fear more than to be
All by myself
Floating on the breeze
I’m crying out so please don’t leave me
All by myself

“Suffering in peace” is an interesting choice of words. It’s almost like he knows he will have to deal with the suffering on his own, but there is a linguistic optimism in his word choices that would suggest he wants his love not to worry. He’s hoping that the love interest won’t completely shut him out because he is most afraid of being alone.

The pain that no one sees
The hardest times, they go so slowly
This house don’t feel like home
I get stoned just to fill the days with
Nothing more than a thick haze
Count the days, like a drone
They go on and on and on

When difficult circumstances endure, time moves slowly and the human condition goes through an uncomfortable process. He tries to occupy his time and body with stimulants but it is no match for a lonely man with a broken heart.

Vocals

Some measures of the song are performed using a variation of autotune to make Aiden’s voice sound more dramatic. Aiden is a tenor with a broad range, he delivers exceptional high notes in the second half of the verses and his voice really shines during the chorus.

Instrumentation

The majority of “By Myself” is based in piano with soft notes and chords. The latter section of music is based in drum machine.

Performance

Aiden has released an official music video for “By Myself.”
