Down to Earth with Zac Efron isn’t what I expected it to be, honestly I had no idea what to anticipate, but this new show on Netflix is absolutely fascinating, informative and an eye opening experience that does make you think about sustainability and the world that we live.
Produced and presented by Zac Efron and Darin Olien, each episode covers a variety of topics from water, power, food, longevity, cryopreservation and sustainability. The episodes are informative and thoroughly researched often with open and frank discussions with scientists and leading professionals in these fields.
Also if you are into travel some of the destinations will whet your appetite and make you want to explore these regions of the world. Iceland, France, Costa Rica and Sardinia feature in the first few episodes. Both Zac and Darin explore the areas, meeting locals and having some amazing experiences while informing the viewer and keeping them genuinely intrigued.
Zac Efron you should recognize from such Hollywood films including Hairspray, High School Musical, Dirty Grandpa and The Greatest Showman. It shouldn’t be surprising that he is really engaging and genuinely interested in the topics that are presented in each episode, you can see he generally cares about the world we live and wants to do better.
Darin Olien is a health nut and Zac Efron’s right hand man. Darin’s background is in health, food, well-being and sustainability and is very knowledgable in these areas. There are moments through out the series where he interrupts and interjects when these leading professionals are talking about their fields. Sometimes Darin adds something to the discussion other times you feel it is distracting.
There is a cameo by Zac’s friend Anna Kendrick where she joins Zac and Darin to do water tasting. It may sound crazy, but the segment goes over the various waters from around the world, their mineral content, the benefits to the human body and how important hydration is for the overall well-being of a person.
This series has gained a lot of press because there are a number of scenes where Zac Efron appears shiftless, which is very appealing. But that aside Down to Earth is an intriguing series highlighting what we can do as individuals to help improve the overall well-being of the planet. For the viewer it is making sustainability and educated decisions when it comes to food, water and power in our every day life.
