A Secret Love, a Documentary That Will Make You Smile

The meaning of love

A Love that has lasted more than 70 years

Source: netflix.com

Sometimes in life you need to watch a documentary that brings a smile to your face and warms your heart. It is lovely to see the good in the world, especially in the unlikely places. A Secret Love is about the love that two women have for each other that has lasted since 1947.

We are introduced to Terry Donahue and Pat Henschel, two adorable ladies in their early 90s, living in Chicago, discussing the prospect of moving back to Canada to be closer to family and live in an assisted living facility.

Terry Donahue, a former All-American Girls Professional Baseball League player, yes one of the ladies that A League of Their Own is loosely based. Terry has had a relationship with her partner Pat Henschel for over seven decades and has finally come out of the closet, to marry her partner and continue their golden years together.

A Secret Love produced by Ryan Murphy, will give you goosebumps, make you smile, cry with happiness and define what is the true meaning of love. This is a feel good documentary that is uplifting but also breaks your heart as these two adorable women have lived together for over 70 years but hidden their love from their family until only recently. But it is about tolerance, acceptance and how a family can come together and celebrate a marriage.

For anyone who has seen their grandparents or parents go through the aging process and making the tough decisions, there is a gamut of emotions that families go through, and the family of Terry and Pat experience all of this for the documentary. As the story is really about a couple, who are in their later years of life and now need to make some difficult choices about their future, and to be honest there is no one out there who wants to admit when they needs some help and when caring for a loved one has becoming a little difficult.

The love these two women have for each other is adorable and you cannot help feel warm and fuzzy all over watching this documentary. These women have lived an incredible life together and it is presented to us in such a way that you overcome any obstacles or preconceived ideas and realize in the end all that matters is treating people the way you want to be treated, which means with kindness, compassion and most importantly love.

A Secret Love is currently streaming on Netflix.
