Ava Max “Dancing’s Done” Song Review

“Dancing’s Done” is the fourth single from Ava Max’s sophomore album entitled Diamonds and Dancefloors. The track has a unique sound. In the beginning there is harmonizing background vocals over the sound of a synthesizer’s higher notes. Her singing throughout the piece demonstrates her strong vocal range and her creative aesthetic.

The song has a melodic chorus that sounds great over the other production elements. Her approach for the track was to use her outstanding range to discover new sounds. On “Dancing’s Done” her vocals are strong, similar to other artists like Lady Gaga and Demi Lovato. The song isn’t your typical dance pop track, it has elements of various different styles of pop music that is perfect for top 40 radio.

Max continues to demonstrate why she is one of the best pop artists out today. “Dancing’s Done” is one of several stellar songs from her latest album.

Lyrics

I see the panic somewhere in your eyes
Yeah, in your eyes
I wanna tell what’s brought us here tonight
Yeah, back to life

A running theme throughout “Dancing’s Done” and the other songs on the album is the concept of creating a diamond. In order to craft one it takes pressure. However, when the pressure fades and you’re left with diamonds, there is a need to start the process of bringing yourself back to life.

If you’re gonna leave me hangin’
Then you’re gonna leave me dead
I’m never going home
If you’re not there

In the aftermath of the pressure life can go in a variety of directions. Since the process causes so much strain, most people may find themselves in a position where they feel like they’re at the bottom and need to discover a way to build themselves up again. The character in the song has decided that she wants to pursue a potential love interest as her next step in life. She’s looking to create a relationship that is inseparable.

I wanna give into your dark temptation
I wanna touch you like nobody does, oh
People like you and me were born to run
So where we going when the dancing’s done? (Oh)

The character wants to essentially “feel the vibe” with her love interest, as she find the prospect of their union to be an irresistible connection. When they hold hands or touch in someway she wants her interest to feel something that cannot be provided by anyone else. She’s not looking for Prince Charming; she’s looking for her interest to move in synchrony together and break the rules, mending their union to be exactly what they want it to be.

Vocals

Max has an incredible voice. Her talent is undeniable and she has one of the broadest vocal ranges in all contemporary pop music.

Instrumentation

The music is based in sounds from a drum machine, keyboard and synthesizer; it creates a darker, edgier twist to the sound of a song that is primarily of the dance pop genre.

Performance

On December 20, Max released the single with an Official Visualizer music video.
