The third time’s the charm.
Princess Theodora of Greece finally married American lawyer Matthew Kumar in a lavish Athens wedding after the couple was forced to postpone the ceremony twice.
The couple held their long-awaited nuptials at the historic Metropolitan Cathedral in the Greek capital on Saturday, the same church where Theodora’s parents were married 60 years ago.
Theodora, 41, is the youngest daughter of the late King Constantine, who was the last King of Greece for only three years before he was forced into exile in 1967.
The political group that took over abolished the monarchy by 1973 however Theodora, her mother Queen Anne-Marie and siblings still represent the country as royals.
Theodora and Kumar were married by His Eminence Metropolitan of Syros, Dorotheos II in a Greek Orthodox wedding ceremony.
Princess Theodora’s strapless wedding gown with a fold-over neckline was made by Greek designer Celia Kritharioti. She also wore an antique Irish lace veil and became the seventh royal bride to wear the Khedive of Egypt Tiara, according to The Court Jeweller. Kumar wore a black, long coat suit with a green vest.
The couple revealed their engagement in November 2018 when Theodora posted a photo posing alongside Kumar in front of the Tower Bridge in London.
“Words can’t express our happiness and excitement,” Theodora said in an Instagram post. “I can’t wait to marry this wonderful man. I love you Matt.”
They initially scheduled their wedding for May 2020, but it was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Their second attempt at a wedding was pushed back when Theodora’s father died in January 2023 at 82. Heir to the British throne, Prince William, did not attend the memorial service for his godfather King Constantine due to Kate Middleton’s cancer battle.
Despite the delays, their wedding finally took place and was packed with royalty.
The groomsmen for Matthew, 41, included the bride’s brothers Crown Prince Pavlos, 57, and Prince Phillipos, 38, as well as Crown Princess Marie Chantal’s second son Prince Achilleas-Andreas.
Royal bridesmaids were Pavlos and Marie-Chantal’s daughter, Princess Maria-Olympia and Arrietta Morales de Grecia, the oldest daughter of her sister Princess Alexia.
Theodora was born in London and earned a bachelor degree in theater arts. She moved to Los Angeles in 2010 with dreams of becoming an actress and is known for appearing on the soap opera “The Bold and The Beautiful.”
Kumar was born and raised in southern California and works at a Los Angeles-based law firm.
“The couple’s desire to have their wedding in Athens reflects their love for Greece, the strong ties they maintain with the country and their desire to share Greek culture and hospitality and identity with their guests,” the former Greek Royal Family wrote in a statement.
The former Greek Royal Family still uses titles because “These stylings were first set out in the 1815 Treaty of Vienna, which states that they are hereditary lifetime titles retained even in the event their associated royal offices cease to exist,” according to the royal website.
