Netflix’s live-action adaptation of One Piece premiered on August 31, 2023, and took the world by storm. Its success led to the announcement that the series would receive Season 2, which is currently in production. And now, the streaming giant gave the fans the very first look at Tony Tony Chopper, an important member of the Straw Hats crew.
Netflix reveals One Piece Season 2’s live-action Tony Tony Chopper
At Netflix’s Geeked Week, Matt Owens, the co-showrunner of One Piece, unveiled a clip featuring the first table read for Season 2. Iñaki Godoy, who portrays Monkey D. Luffy in the show, appears in the clip and invites the audience in, as he, his fellow cast members, and crew prepare to delve into the second season’s script. Toward the end of the footage, Godoy tells the viewers, “Yo, guys, I can’t believe who’s here to make their debut in Season 2.” He adds, “Look at this,” before the scene shifts to Chopper.
Although he is turned away from the camera and we don’t actually see his face, the shot of Chopper’s fuzzy hat and reindeer horns was enough to send the internet into a frenzy.
As the clip indicates, Chopper will likely appear as a CGI character in Netflix’s One Piece. It is yet unknown who will provide the voice of the character.
Chopper is one of the most beloved characters of both Eiichiro Oda’s long-running manga series and its anime adaptation. Initially a reindeer, Chopper consumes the Hito Hito no Mi Devil Fruit and gains the ability to transform at will into a human or a reindeer-human hybrid. He serves as a doctor within the Straw Hat crew and has an extensive knowledge of medicine.
While Netflix might not have revealed who will voice Chopper in Season 2, they have announced several other cast members joining the season. This includes Katey Sagal as Dr. Kureha, Joe Manganiello as Mr. 0, Sendhil Ramamurthy as Nefertari Cobra, Charithra Chandran as Miss Wednesday, and David Dastmalchian as Mr. 3.
