What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write The Chaos Realm?
I started this story in high school to entertain myself. I was very introverted and had been complemented on my “maturity” throughout my youth. Taking that to heart, I didn’t goof off with other teens because I was “too grown up for such things.” I wish I had enjoyed being a kid more. Laments aside, it was still fun to see the expressions on my teachers’ faces when I asked if I could have permission to write after I’d finished course work. I didn’t know back then that I would write a full novel on a beat up old iPod or that it would turn into a book series. I was just having fun!
If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of The Chaos Realm, what would they be?
Warren- “In the End” by Black Veil Brides
Cassidy- “Planetary Go!” by My Chemical Romance
Vallerie- “Foreverglow” by Lindsay Stirling
Emron- “The Sound of Silence” by Disturbed
Lillian- “Story of my Life” by One Direction (The Piano Guys cover)
Caprice- “The Light” by Disturbed
What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?
Fantasy! and YES!
What books are on your TBR pile right now?
“Relentless Blades” Russell Carroll (no relation), “Daughter of Fate” by Aaron Hodges, “Rythem of War” Brandon Sanderson (currently reading), “The Wizard’s Blade” P.C. Darkcliff, “Relentless Blades” Russell Carroll (no relation), “Daughter of Fate” Aaron Hodges, “Royal” K.T. Slater, and The “Underland” Series by Mary E. Twomley.
Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)
Despite having a desk to work at, I often end up curled on the couch or in bed while writing. I also still look at my hands when I type because I tend to get too distracted by reading what I’m writing if I look at the screen.
Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?
Our family motto is: “In this house lives kings and queens. We do not stand idly by as our neighboring kings and queens suffer. We walk with those whose journey is long. We stand with those who believe in hope. We kneel with those who cannot stand. We Seek the Lord daily—for he is our God, our light, our eternal happiness.”
If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?
I hope they know that their Darkness can be beaten. No matter how encompassing the blackness around them is, there is light and warmth for them.
