Courtney Pilling aka Odd One Out is a dynamic singer-songwriter based in Manchester, UK who brings a unique voice to the indie music scene. Inspired by the band Twenty One Pilots, she began her musical journey with a modest ukulele, a gift from her mum.
Since then, Odd One Out has been expressing her thoughts and feelings through songs, initially recorded in single takes using the microphone on her earphones. Now, at 23 years old, she creates music with a more professional setup.
The name ‘Odd One Out’ reflects Courtney’s experiences of often feeling out of place. Through music, however, she discovered a sense of belonging.
Odd One Out’s music, characterised by its hauntingly beautiful melodies and introspective lyrics, has been described as “Spectral Pop” by many people, including radio host Graham Duff.
She’s just released her third EP entitled “Alone”, which is composed of five tracks. Speaking about the project, Odd One Out says, “This EP titled ‘Alone’ is about the perspectives of different people who are alone. Alone in the way they think, alone physically, alone because nobody seems to want them, but the ending song repeats “I am not alone.” This conclusion to the EP emphasises that nobody is ever truly alone.”
